Resumen

This review is about the book
“Journalism and Emancipa-
tion - a journalistic practice
based on Paulo Freire” (Ap-
pris, 2017), by the professor
and researcher of School of
Communications and Arts of
University of São Paulo, Den-
nis de Oliveira. The work
shows the influence of
Freire’s thinking, as well as
other intellectuals, especially
Oscar Jara Holliday and Zyg-
munt Bauman, on the current
journalism practiced in Brazil.
The analysis makes possible
a debate about the forma-
tion and profession of the
communicator, including the
university professors.
